PERMASET supported #FreetheReef campaign

‘Many of us ask what can I, as one person, do, but history shows us that everything good and bad starts because somebody does something or does not do something.’

— Sylvia Earle, Oceanographer

The future of the Great Barrier Reef remains uncertain. Various threats, such as illegal fishing, climate pressure, marine debris, agricultural runoff, rapid industrialisation and inadequate legislation could ruin the beauty of this natural wonder. Unless immediate action is taken, this breathtaking life form that encompasses the largest collection of coral reefs on Earth will be lost forever.

If mining, dredging and dumping projects go ahead, millions of plants and animals, including humpback whales, sharks, sea turtles, colourful fish, dolphins, molluscs and other species, will suffer. This is why the FREE THE REEF campaign was developed, to take action and raise awareness to protect the reef from potential threats.

As part of a commitment to sustainability, Colormaker Industries, the manufacturer of PERMASET water-based inks for screen printing, supported the FREE THE REEF campaign from 2015-2018 to raise awareness about these threats to the Great Barrier Reef. Although money was raised and people were made more aware of the threats to the Reef, there is still much more to be done.

The Vision of FREE THE REEF Campaign

FREE THE REEF comprised of a live screen printing tour around Australia, which operated from 2015-2018. It used the power of art to raise awareness and vital funds needed to support the protection of the ‎Great Barrier Reef‬‬‬‬‬. Environmental warrior, Stu Nicholas used SMARTIVISM, conscious business (SMART), inspired artists (ARTISAN) and purposeful organisations (ACTIVISM) to develop the campaign aimed to educate, raise funds and facilitate change.‬‬‬‬

Rallying businesses, artists and the community, the campaign’s objective was to strongly influence decision makers to create future proofing legislation that would protect the reef from harmful human activity.

Together We Can Help FREE THE REEF!

Colormaker Industries, the maker of PERMASET and PERMATONE textile printing inks were a proud sponsor of the FREE THE REEF campaign, providing eco-friendly inks for use in the screen printing of T-shirts on a tour around Australia. This initiative sent a message to government and administrators and raised vital funds needed to help save the Great Barrier Reef.

Using a range of PERMASET eco-friendly Inks, people could choose from a range of designs supplied by artists, to print their own T-shirt to support the FREE THE REEF campaign. They also had the option to purchase #‎freethereef‬‬‬‬ T-shirts with unique wearable statements online. For every T-shirt sold, $10 was donated to the Australian Marine Conservation Society.‬‬‬‬

Thousands of people let their voices be heard and stood up against those who are putting the Great Barrier Reef in danger. Together, these people have helped to turn the tide and influence the minds of millions.
